22/5/23 – Sprigs of Thyme concert feedback from Les
Yesterday was one of the finest performances by Eye Bach Choir since I have been conductor, and parts of it were THE finest ensemble singing we have offered our audiences in that time. Fascinating that the music which was weakest in rehearsal became the strongest music in performance – the Victorian part songs, especially The Long Day Closes.
I recently heard from a reliable source of a concert by a bigger Suffolk choir than us, and the knowledgeable comment was that the performance lacked light and shade. No-one could say that of yesterday’s EBC concert! On the contrary, it was your fabulous dynamics that were commented upon after the concert by a discerning past member. It was more than just dynamics; it was superb ensemble (which means musical togetherness, listening, and artistic decision-making on the part of each singer). We were a team.
Your performance of the part songs was rich with dynamic vibrancy: tender pianos, forceful fortes, compelling crescendos and decrescendos; AND – supremely – you were magnificently attentive to the conducting so that there was total togetherness. A conductor is like a potter with clay. You enabled me to shape and form the choral sound into MUSIC; real music: the expression of our humanity in all its joy and sorrow, sadness and delight, grief and ecstasy. If music doesn’t do that, in my book it’s not music. Just more noise. What we did yesterday was MUSIC!
It wasn’t just the part songs. Far from it. There were other good moments too. What a rollick the millers gave us! And we do enjoy Waly waly! You will have spotted a huge smile on my face when the ladies’ voices came in at “There is a ship and she sails the seas”. That huge smile was because your entry was PERFECT. You were listening like hawks, estimating the amount of sound needed to balance with the melody prominent. That is professionalism. Glorious. You had our audience in the palm of your hand.
I hope you are vibrating with pleasure today, and massively proud of being part of today’s Eye Bach Choir.
Best wishes
Leslie
14/4/23 – Auction of Promises Update. Message from Nicola
Anna has asked me to circulate the attached catalogue in advance of the Auction of Promises on 22 April. Details of how you can bid even if you are not able to attend are included in the catalogue. Please do try to support this as we really need to raise funds to help with our 50th Anniversary year.
Anna intends to run a raffle on the evening of the auction so please dig out those unwanted gifts or bottles hiding under the stairs and bring them to the rehearsal on 21 April.
1/4/23 – Rehearsal reminders. Message from Nicola.
This is just a reminder that we have no rehearsals on 7 and 14 April for the Easter break. We will resume rehearsals on 21 April.
