JACK COMERFORD – BASS
Jack leads a varied career as a performer, teacher and researcher. He read Music at the
University of York, and an MMus at the Royal College of Music. Performing highlights have
included Orfeo and Iphigénie en Tauride (Gluck/OAE) with Laurence Cummings in Romania,
Motets (Bach/Sixteen) at the BBC Proms with Harry Christophers, B Minor Mass (Bach/OAE)
in Poland with Vaclav Luks, Hassan (Delius/Britten Sinfonia) with Jamie Phillips, Missa
Solemnis (Beethoven/Monteverdi Choir) at the BBC Proms with Sir John Eliot Gardiner,
L’Allegro (Handel/Monteverdi Choir) with Dinis Sousa at Carnegie Hall, Curlew River
(Britten/Britten-Pears arts) for the BBC and the Coronation of King Charles III. Notable solo
engagements have included BWV 174 with the London Handel Players, B Minor Mass with the
Hanover Band, Israel in Egypt (Handel/Monteverdi Choir) with Peter Whelan, St John Passion
(Bach/Florilegium) with Salisbury Cathedral Choir, Esther (Handel/English Concert) with Peter
Whelan and Linn Records and Walpurgisnacht with Sir John Eliot Gardiner
(Mendelssohn/Constellation). In addition to singing, Jack researches and writes on Handel, his
oratorios and domestic music culture during this period, a topic that is central to his PhD. His
writing has appeared in publications including the Handel Institute and Eighteenth-Century
Music and he has also appeared as a guest speaker on BBC Radio 3’s Early Music Show.
