Our concert on November 9th at 7.30pm in Eye Parish Church features music for Royal occasions.
Historically music – even that destined for Church use – has been sustained for centuries in Britain and throughout Europe by the support of Royal and aristocratic households. The programme for this concert contains works by Haydn from his time at Esterhazy, including his setting of the Te Deum written for Empress Maria Therese of Austria. Also works by Parry (I Was Glad) and Stanford from England, and the highlight of the concert being the four anthems written by G F Handel for the spectacular coronation of George II in 1727 (including Zadok the Priest).
The programme as a whole will include:
Handel, Coronation Anthems – Zadok The Priest, Let Thy Hand Be Strengthened, The King Shall Rejoice, and My Hand Is Inditing
Haydn – Te Deum
Stanford – Te Deum
Parry – I Was Glad
Haydn – Missa Brevis St Joannis de Deo
With Organ Accompaniment from the acclaimed Alex Binns, joining us again, and the Soprano Soloist Jane Burnell.
