Harmoneyes is the name of the Youth Choir which has been launched by Eye Bach Choir for young people in the Eye area following on from the fantastic success of our joint concert Ahoy! with children from the Eye area in November 2015. Harmonies has performed with the adult choir at Christmas events and there are plans to extend that with other joint singing opportunities. The choir meets on Fridays between 4.30 and 5.30pm in Eye Town Hall during school term time. So far we have had twelve youngsters registered with regular attendees numbering eight on average. The children come from Eye, Mellis and Thorndon Primary schools and from Hartismere High School. The cost is £4 per session and includes squash and biscuits.
We would welcome more young people who would like to experience the fun and friendship of singing with others.
The choir is led by Ed Gerrie, one of our younger singers, who is a member of the Suffolk County Music Service and leads a number of youth choirs in schools across the county. The children are learning about rhythm and counting, keeping time, recognising intervals between notes and how to hold pitch. Since we began in January the choir has learnt how to sing in two or three parts.
In order to launch this choir we have been very grateful to receive grants from Eye Town Council and the Eye Grammar School Trust. This has enabled us to cover costs while the choir becomes established.
We are keen to welcome new members between the ages of 9 to 14.
